To duplicate or replicate? That's the question.

Q: What Options do I have to get my CD or DVD manufactured, namely CD/DVD replication or CD/DVD duplication.

1.) Replication means the disc will be pressed from a glass master and the artwork will be offset of screen printed directly onto the disc surface just like any disc you find in a retail environmnet.

2.) Duplication means the disc will be burned in a disc drive from CD-R or DVD-R media and the artwork will be printed on either a paper label which is then applied onto the disc surface or direct ink jet printed on the disc.

If you have enough time (5-7 days) and the ordered quantity is 500 or more, the best most economical production method is CD/DVD  replication.

 The only time you would want to consider CD/DVD duplication is when your order is less than 500 or you need to rush the order.

If you chose duplication, ask your supplier if they use the "compare and verify" routine when the discs are burned. Some companies turn this off to save time as the process takes longer. FullCircle Media Solutions always runs "compare and verify" for all CD/DVD duplication orders eliminating program errors.

Q: How much data does a DVD hold?

Standard DVD Capacities

- 4.7 billion-bytes (4.38GB) single sided, 1 data layer*
- 8.5 billion-bytes (7.95GB) single sided, 2 data layers
- 9.4 billion-bytes (8.75GB) dual sided, 1 data layer per side
* With computers, 1 KB data = 1024 bytes, so 4,700,000,000 bytes / 1024 = 4,589,844 KB / 1024 = 4,482 MB / 1024 = 4.377 GB.
